Chart Tables
On a boat as small as a Corribee, chart tables are not fitted as standard and this is often a problem as the only other available space is the cooker cover, and this is not really big enough for charts. On Casulen II, we have fitted two chart tables, one of which is full-size.
The smaller of the two is fitted above the starboard quarter berth, and slides out into the cabin. This is useful for pilot guides, the log and the almanac, but after trying to fit charts on it, we decided that something bigger was needed. 
The vee berths were the only space big enough, so we made a collapsible raised platform to go over these.
This consisted of two aluminium poles that fitted into wooden sockets that were “sikaflexed” onto the inside of the hull on either side. We then made up some plywood boards that fitted together over the top of the poles. This worked fine, so we added a box for instruments and a slot for the parallel rulers, to stop them sliding around. 
The end result is a chart table more than big enough to take standard admiralty charts. It has proved it’s worth over last summer, particularly on long passages offshore, where the ability to lay out the whole chart to plot positions was extremely useful.
